Daugaard took the oath of office over the weekend to start his
second term as South Dakota’s
governor.

A federal judge yesterday declared South Dakota’s same-sex
marriage ban unconstitutional,
but marriage licenses won’t be
immediately issued because the
ruling was put on hold pending an appeal. Attorney General
Marty Jackley said the state will
appeal the case to the 8th U.S.
Circuit Court of Appeals.
Yankton Rural Area Health
Education Center (AHEC) was
awarded a $50,000 grant by the
South Dakota Workforce Development Council last week to address a critical shortage of qualified certified nursing assistants.

getting their groove on at the River City Domestic Violence Center
and River City Family Connection’s second annual Dancing

Two Evangelical churches in
Yankton Kingsway Christian
Church and Cornerstone Evangelical Church will merge into
one non-denominational Bible
Church effective February 1. Services will be held at 708 E. 19

Avera Sacred Heart Hospital has
seen a rise in births in 2014.
The Yankton hospital helped
bring 638 babies into the world,
making it the highest number of
births in 10 years.

Yankton received at least 8
inches of snow yesterday. The
storm system referred to as
Winter Storm Linus headed east
towards the Great Lakes and
the eastern seaboard. It was
reported last night that at least
100 million people have been or
will be impacted by this storm
system.

A second chance prom will be
held February 14 at Minerva’s
in Yankton all proceeds from the
event will go to the Ability Building Services Foundation. ABS is
a private not-for-profit community agency that provides prevocational activities, vocational
training, residential training and
other supports and services by
people with developmental disabilities in the Yankton area.

The South Dakota Army National
Guard unit in Rapid City and
Wagner is deploying to Kuwait,
tentatively late summer. The
SDANG 155th Engineer Company has received an alert order for
possible mobilization to Kuwait
in support of Operation Enduring
Freedom, New Dawn and Noble
Eagle. The unit has 162 members.

Area will be updating and adding cabins before the summer

The operator of the Missouri
River marina at Pickstown is
ready to start running the Yankton marina, too. Members of the
South Dakota Game, Fish and
Parks Commission unanimously
approved a 10 year lease with
Chris Donlin to operate the
state’s concession at Lewis &
Clark Recreation Area.

Jacob Fokken of Yankton and
Holly Hegge of Crofton were
crowned the 2015 Lord and Lady
Marben at Mount Marty College’s
homecoming coronation ceremony last night. Fokken is the
son of Denis and Mary Beth Fokken, and Hegge is the daughter
of Bob and Helene Hegge.

$8,000 Sacred Heart Schools in
Yankton will be able to update
their security systems at both the
Sacred Heart Middle School and
elementary school.

An agreement between the
Yankton School District and the
