and NRCS will be hosting two
Spring Soil Health Meetings
March 17 in Ipswich and
March 18 in Crooks.
The March 17 meeting
held in Ipswich will be held
at the 4-H building (515 7th
St). The March 18 meeting
in Crooks will be held at the
community center (701 S
Western Ave).
Doug Peterson will be
the keynote speaker at both
locations. Peterson is the
Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Regional
Soil Health Specialist for
Missouri and Iowa. He has
been employed by NRCS for
25 years.
Peterson and his father
manage a cow/calf and contract grazing operation. They
run approximately 500 cows
and utilize managementintensive grazing and holistic
high density grazing to
improve soil health.
Additional topics covered
during the Ipswich meeting
will be Utilizing Cover Crops
and Using Livestock as the
Combine. Both presentations
will be led by local producers.
Additional topics covered
at Crooks will be In-Season
Cover Crops presented by Dr.
Shannon Osborne, USDA-ARS,
Brookings and Cover Crops
and Rotational Diversity presented by a local producer.

events are free for current
members of South Dakota
Soil Health Coalition and $25
for non-members.
The $25 registration fee
will include a one year coalition membership.
