The Dave & Connie Tschetter Memorial Concert Series will be held Wednesday, March 16, at the NFAA Yankton Archery Complex. Christian bands Seventh Day Slumber, Disciple, Decyfer Down, Spoken and Children 18:3 will perform as part of a tour sponsored by Cross Rock Ministries. The event is set to run from 6:30-11 p.m. The bands performing are currently on a national tour. Yankton will be their only stop in South Dakota. The proceeds from the concert will go towards creating college scholarships in the Tschetters’ names. The Dave Tschetter scholarship will be for the individual arts or meteorology fields, and the Connie Tschetter scholarship will be for nursing. Dave passed away in 2001 and Connie in 2011. The Tschetters’ son, Russel, has been in charge of organizing the event for the last year and a half. “My mom had a wish to give back to the community for all they’ve given her throughout her years of raising a family and having a business in town,” Russel said. “She wanted an academic scholarship.” His family had previously owned a video production business called Videotaping Service, and his mother worked as a nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital for 37 years. His father was also at one time the lead person for sky watch in Yankton County. “My mom put me in charge of the idea prior to her death,” Tschetter said. “I thought and prayed about it and finally decided I Courtesy Photo Seventh Day Slumber will be one of the bands featured at the Dave & Connie Tschetter Memorial Concert Series, set for Wednesday, March 16, at the NFAA Yankton Archery Complex. needed to honor my parents’ wishes.” He got to work contacting the bands, businesses and organizations that he wished to help with creating the event. Fortunately, he was met with a positive response. “Without the financial sponsors and the sponsors that donated goods and services, as well as the volunteers, this event would not happen,” Tschetter said. A raffle will be held during the concert for the goods and services donated, which include oil changes, car detailing and car tools. Two guitars signed by all the bands will also be part of the raffle. Silver/Black Interior, Tschetter hasn’t been Full Power short on finding help. Remote Start, 56K “When people are looking to help, they don’t ask what’s in it for them. They ask how they can help and what they can do,” he said. “I’ve been 2013 Chevy Impala LT Call Tony Now!!! 665-3720 $12,500 605-665-3720 • Yankton, SD very blessed to be a part of the community and seeing firsthand how they stepped forward and helped get this off the ground.” Tschetter is looking to have this concert series become a yearly event. “We’re going to utilize different bands,” he said. “We are already in the process of talking to the next Cross Rock Ministries tour.” The amount of the scholarships is currently undecided. “We have to get enough in the fund to be able to draw interest for the scholarships, so we are making this a yearly event to build them up as quickly as possible,” Tschetter said. “I would like to have more than one of each scholarship so more people can have them.” Tschetter hopes to accomplish more than just raising funds for the scholarships. “On one side, I want to make as much money as possible,” Tschetter said. “On the same token, Yankton is a community where a large amount of the population has never heard the Gospel. Being able to have one person come that isn’t associated with the church and hearing the word of God for the first time and having their lives changed — that’s the end goal. “God has plans for this event,” he added. “I’m being a vessel for Him to use for His glory.” Tickets are available at the follow locations: Carpenter Shop in the Yankton Mall, Yesterday’s Café, Jerry’s Photography, Thrivent Financial, River City Broadcasting, Sacred Heart Middle School and St. Ben’s Elementary School.
