Yankton Area Arts, with the support of the City of Yankton,
will present the Not Yet Almost Famous Bassoon Band in
concert at 8 p.m. at Riverside Park Amphitheatre on Tuesday,
July 28.
Since 2009 the Not Yet Almost Famous Bassoon Band has
been playing in Sioux Falls as part of its summer street musicians program. The band got its start when the area bassoonists from Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota realized it’d be fun
to get together and play in public. The band has been together
ever since, having played in Sioux City, Le Mars, Orange City,
Vermillion and Yankton. Occasionally it plays in Sunday morning church services. The band consists of students, professional musicians, teachers, and friends. It’s a reunion to get together to practice, perform, share stories and just be together.
This concert is a part of the free Tuesday Summer Concert
Series sponsored by Yankton Area Arts and the City of Yankton
in which the Yankton Summer Band performs six Tuesday
concerts and is followed by five subsequent pops concerts
through Aug. 4. In addition to the July 28 concert, the remaining concert in the series is: Main Avenue Warehouse on Aug. 4.
Yankton Area Arts is a non-profit arts organization located
at 508 Douglas Avenue in Yankton. The mission of YAA is to
advocate, educate, and enrich Yankton by integrating the arts
within the community. Without the support of its members,
volunteers and partners, free weekly concerts throughout the
summer would not be possible.
