The race would use local trails and showcase the City of Yankton as well as the Recreational Area west of Yankton, Lewis and Clark Lake, Lake Yankton and Gavins Point Dam. The inaugural Riverrat took place on the fourth Saturday of April, 2010. It included a Marathon, 1/2 Marathon, a 5K and a Cyclocross. Prior years’ race benefactors have been The Yankton Science Club to help with expenses for Science Olympiad teams going to State and National Tournaments, the Yankton High School Track Team as one of their major fundraisers, The Center in Yankton for support of Meals on Wheels for the Elderly and The SFC Richard L Schild Memorial Scholarship. This year, due to safety concerns about coronavirus, the race has been cancelled.
