Academy Of Dance To
Present Winter Concert
BY ROB NIELSEN
rob.nielsen@yankton.net
A holiday treat is returning to
Yankton to kick off the holiday
season.
And just like the holidays,
it’s once again aiming to make
sure everyone can join in on the
celebration.
The Academy of Dance
Winter Concert is set for the
Summit Center Theatre at 2 p.m.
and 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24.
According to Academy of
Dance owner Dorota Dannenbring, this is the academy’s
second holiday concert, with
the first taking place in 2017.
“It was loved by everyone, so
we decided to go for a holiday
concert in 2019,” Dannenbring
told the Press & Dakotan.
She added that it’s going
to be a big, all-encompassing
show.
“We have everybody in the
dance studio participating,” she
said. “We have fathers who are
dancing. We have high school
boys that are partnering with
our high school beauties —
ages 3-adult altogether.”
The show is split into a number of performances and will
include Christmas music and
a number of costumes. Some
of the performances include
“Christmas in Sarajevo,” “Light
of Christmas,” “Christmas Without You,” “It’s Not Christmas
Without You” and “Holidays
Around the World.”
In alternate years, the Dakota
Dance Association presents
“The Nutcracker.”
Dannenbring said the holiday
concert grew out of a desire to
try a new concept.
“Let’s do something that
doesn’t have tryouts that
doesn’t separate dancers from
getting different parts,” she
said. “We come together equal
and our dance studio comes to-

gether to perform
with no solos,
with no tryouts
and with no broken hearts.”
She added
that the show
also aims to raise
money for a great
cause. During the
last holiday concert, the Academy
donated proceeds
to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital
with plans to do it
again this year.
Dannenbring
said she’s unsure
of exactly how
many dancers will
be taking part in
this year’s concert.
“Straight from
Riverboat Days,
we jumped into
our fall session
and we’re just going 100 miles per
hour to have this
performance,” she
said. “We started
this in September
and it is a straightthrough rehearsal
season. … It’s going to be a stagefull many, many
times.”
One of the six
teachers helping
bring the show
together is Kathryn Reimler, who
told the Press &
