outstanding achievement
academically, the state
fair is partnering up with
schools and public libraries to promote reading.
The Read & Win program
can complement a current
reading program or serve
as the foundation for a
new reading program.

PIERRE, S.D. – Governor Kristi Noem today announced that Amy Iversen-Pollreisz will serve as
Interim Secretary of Social Services. This follows the
resignation of current Secretary of Social Services
Greg DeSautel, which is effective May 22.
“I’m thankful for the ways Amy has served South
Dakota through her various roles at DSS over the
years,” said Noem. “I’m confident she’ll continue
moving the department in the right direction during
this interim period.”
“I am honored to serve the department in this
capacity,” said Iversen-Pollreisz. “I look forward to
continue working with Governor Noem and the diligent staff at the Department of Social Services.”
Iversen-Pollreisz currently serves as deputy cabinet secretary for the Department of Social Services
where she has led extensive system change initiatives and infrastructure development for behavioral
health services. Previously, she served in various
roles within the Department of Human Services,
including work as the director of the Division of
Mental Health. She also served as an elementary
school counselor in Stanley County.
Iversen-Pollreisz is a Pierre resident.

Keep Yankton Beautiful
Since its inception twenty
years ago, Keep Yankton
Beautiful has been working
hard to do just that! Our
name is our mission, and
we’re proud to be the sole
South Dakota affiliate for
Keep America Beautiful. As
a small non-profit with no
government funding, we
rely solely on the generous
contributions from both
individuals and businesses.
With help from our donors,
volunteers, and hardworking board of directors,
we’re able to improve and
enhance our city with
community involvement,
recycling education and
promotion, cleanup efforts,
and beautification projects.
While we are probably
best known for our annual
Great American Cleanup in
April (which was another
great success with over
300 participants gathering
several thousand pounds of
trash), we stay busy all year
long!
Most recently, we were
partners for the 11th Annual
Missouri River Watershed
School Festival on May 2nd
in Riverside Park. Hundreds
of local students enjoyed
an educational morning
in the park learning about
the ecology of the Missouri
River from 20 presenters.
We also participate in the
annual Missouri River Cleanup, which takes place on the
first Saturday of May every
year. We’re all hoping to
make up for the unfortunate

before in May 2020.
In the upcoming months,
we’ll stay busy helping out
at the Lake Yankton Outdoor
Festival and Homestead
Days, Saturday June 8
from 10-1. With fun and
educational presentations,
plus the return of the
popular cardboard boat
races, it’s going to be
another great event! We’re
also excited to participate
in the inaugural Meridian
District Art Project Color
Run on June 15th. We’ll
be keeping all the runners
hydrated throughout the
race in Riverside Park.

In August we’ll be on trash

Keep Yankton Beautiful
will be helping the City of
Yankton with their annual
Household Hazardous Waste
Event.
We love to participate in
events throughout the year,
and we also love to dig in

we plant a tree—this year,

we have dedicated our
