With spring here, we can now look to the necessary work needed on the verandas at the Mead Cultural Education Center. Engineers were on site this week to work with the Mead Restoration
Committee on how to tackle the greatest ornate feature of the
Mead exterior. Although work on the veranda is intended to commence in May of this year, the museum will continue to be open
to the public all summer long. Mark your calendars for our Feed
Your Mind presentation at noon on Friday, April 5, 2019. Former
administrator Steve Lindquist will be here to talk about the history of the state hospital, which celebrates a 140th anniversary
this year. For more on upcoming events you can check out our
calendar of events at www.meadbuilding.org. You can stop out at
the Mead Cultural Education Center at 82 Mickelson Drive, email
us at info@meadbuilding.org. Our winter hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. (closed Wednesdays) and Saturday and Sunday 1-5 p.m. Office hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

In the summer of 2009, the original River Rat committee members
gathered to develop a running event for the Yankton area. The race
would use local trails and showcase the city of Yankton as well as the
Lewis and Clark Recreation area west of town. The inaugural River Rat
Marathon took place on the 4th Saturday in April, 2010. This year will
mark the 10th occurrence of this annual event. The River Rat Marathon
consists of several running events including a USATF Certified Marathon
(Boston Qualifier), a Marathon Relay Team event, a Half Marathon, a 5K
run/walk and a Kids’ Fun Run. This year however due to construction
near the trail we will not offer the marathon or marathon relay due to
certification issues and detours but we have added a 10K. All courses
are ADA accessible.
