VERMILLION — Plans
are in the works for 2019’s
Human Library at the Edith
B. Siegrist Vermillion Public
Library.
The library will again be
partnering with the University of South Dakota’s I.D.
Weeks Library to put this
event on and have started
looking for volunteers to
become books. The event
will be in March 2019 and
will take place on the USD
campus.
The Human Library™
is an event designed to
engage participants in
one-to-one conversations
and learn from the experiences of others. Books
typically represent a group
in a community that has
been exposed to stigma,
stereotyping, or prejudices.
These are typically based
on one of the following: Occupation, ethnicity, health,
lifestyle, religion, social
status, gender/sexuality,
ideology, or people with
disabilities. Other book
topics can include heavy
taboo subjects, such as
victims of domestic violence, incest, sexual abuse,
or parents that lost a child
and other grief topics.
To apply to be a human
book, fill out an application
form at: bit.ly/USDhuman.
