Daugaard Encourages Expansion Of Registered Apprenticeships PIERRE, S.D. – The Department of Labor and Regulation (DLR) is offering informational sessions in four communities during the week Gov. Dennis Daugaard has proclaimed to highlight registered apprenticeships. The Governor invites business, education, economic development, and HR leaders to attend the sessions to learn more about apprenticeship opportunities. “The apprenticeship training model combines work-based learning with related classroom instruction using the highest industry standards,” said Gov. Daugaard. “These opportunities provide students with crucial job skills in high-demand areas and allow them to earn while they learn. They also directly benefit industries that are looking to fill workforce gaps.” South Dakota has the potential to offer thousands of apprenticeship opportunities as many occupations can be apprenticeable, Daugaard added. Industry associations, higher-education institutions, organizations and other workforce intermediaries can be registered apprenticeship sponsors. A business can be a sponsor and manage all aspects of the program, or partner with an established sponsor. The informational sessions have been scheduled on the following days: • Tuesday, Nov. 14, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. MST, Rapid City – at Western Dakota Technical Institute, 800 Mickelson Dr. • Wednesday, Nov. 15, 8 – 9 a.m. CST, Sioux Falls –www.missourivalleyshopper.com at Southeast Technical Institute, 2320 N.
