Women, Gender & Sexuality March Is National Nutrition Month®:
Smart, Nutritious Dairy Snacks!
Conference Addresses
“Cultures of Change”
VERMILLION, S.D. – The Women,
Gender & Sexuality Program at the University of South Dakota hosts its biennial
research conference on the Vermillion
campus March 22-24. The conference features keynote speakers on transgender
rights and gender-based violence as well
as musical performances, an art show,
a film screening and panel sessions on
topics such as legislating access to reproductive health care and mother-daughter
relationships.
“This year’s conference focuses on
two interconnected challenges that we
face,” says Sara Lampert, conference
organizer, assistant professor of history
and program coordinator of the Women,
Gender & Sexuality Studies Program.
“These are how to combat cultures of
violence that disproportionately target
women and LGBTQ individuals and how
to foster more inclusive understandings
of gender and rights for transgender
individuals.”
Three of the conference’s events are
free and open to the public:
“Recovering Women Composers, a
Lecture Recital”—featuring Ioana Galu,
assistant professor of music (violin), and
Alessandra Feris, assistant professor of
music (piano). Wednesday, March 22, Colton Recital Hall, Fine Arts Building, 7 p.m.

for a variety of reasons:
•Dairy is a source of
protein which can help
keep us fuller longer—the
goal of any snack!
•Dairy pairs nicely with
other food groups, especially fruits and vegetables
which we all can benefit
from eating more of.
•Dairy foods are convenient with many graband-go options to choose
from.
Tips for Snacking
Smarter!
Here are some easy tips
to help you snack smarter
during National Nutrition
Month and beyond—and
help you get the recommended three servings of
dairy every day:
•Pair cheese sticks
with fresh fruit, such as
an apple, pear or grapes.
Try our Rainbow Fruit &
Cheese Kabobs.
•Reach for cheese
cubes and whole grain
crackers when you want
something savory.
•Dip strawberries in
yogurt for a tasty, sweet
treat.
•Create your own yogurt parfait. Try our Fruit
Salsa Yogurt Parfait.
•Whip up a dairy-based
smoothie made for an onthe-go snack.
•Satisfy your chocolate
craving with a glass of
chocolate milk.
•Make a yogurt-based
dip for fresh vegetables.
Try our Green Pea and
Parmesan Dip.
