“In the end, we rented the
crowns, weapons and wigs,
but were able to make the
clothes and secure everything else,” Vavra said. “The
kids are really excited about
the costumes.”
FEELING THE EXCITEMENT
The excitement was
expressed by two cast members.
Quinn Fargo plays the
werewolf Fenris Ulf. The
15-year-old boy has performed in productions since
2013.
“I’ve acted in a few shows.
I’ve done a lot of Lewis and
Clark and children’s theater
productions,” he said. “I
thought I would try out for
this show and see how it
goes.”
Fargo admits his role requires him to act against his
natural personality.
“In this role, I have to be
mean. That’s not really me, so
I need to learn to be mean,”
he said. “But for my last role,
I needed to be naughty and
learned to act that way.”
For cast member Lauren
Bruening, the upcoming production represents a family
affair. The incoming Yankton
High School freshman is the
daughter of the co-director.
The younger Bruening enjoys working with her mother
and receiving direction. However, she also draws upon her
own theatrical experiences.
She has remained involved in
theater since 2008.
“You step out of yourself
(when acting),” Lauren said.
“It’s a fun experience, and
you make new friends. With
this show, I love the costume
and crown. It’s a thrill to do
the show. This has been an
adventure.”
As part of that adventure,
she has learned new things
along the way. “The college
students give me pointers on
how to do things,” she said.
MAKING AN IMPACT
Robertson and Howe are
seeking to make an impact
on the younger cast members.
“We hope to inspire them
and give them ideas for
acting,” said Robertson, a
Springfield native who graduated from Bon Homme High
School.
Howe, a Vermillion High
School graduate, holds
familiarity with the production.
“I know the story,” she
said. “I’ve seen the movie
and have read the book, but
I didn’t know it was a stage
show.”
The diverse cast of the
Yankton production provides
unique teaching opportunities, Howe said.
“We’re working with different ages and experience
levels, and it’s been fun,” she
said.
The two USD theater students are required to complete a summer internship
outside of a USD-sponsored
setting. The current production gives them an insight
into acting, teaching, directing and children’s theater,
they said.
Robertson has learned
a great deal in the process.
“You’re discovering new
things, and this is so fun,” she
said.
Howe said she has been
pleased with the cast’s willingness to work with her.
“Everybody listens and
responds to what you say,”
she said. “It’s great seeing
everything come together.”

(StatePoint) If you’re in
the market to buy a home,
today’s historically low average mortgage rates are something to celebrate. Mortgage
rates play a significant role
in how much home you can
afford -- and when rates are
low, a home that was once
unaffordable may now be
within reach.
very low compared to almost
any year since 1971 -- all to
a buyer’s advantage,” says
Sean Becketti, chief economist, Freddie Mac.
At an average of 3.58 percent as of April 2016, today’s
rates are “not to be missed
for those ready to make the
major investment of a home
purchase,” says Becketti.
“Small changes in mortgage
rates can have a significant
impact on monthly payments.”
Mortgage rates change
frequently, and over the last
45 years they have ranged
from a high of 18.63 percent
in 1981, to a low of 3.31
percent in 2012. Experts say
today’s figures are not anything to take for granted.
For example, a $200,000
loan financed at 8.86 percent
in the 1970s translated to an
approximate monthly payment of $1,589. In the 2000s,
the average rate of 6.29 percent meant an approximate
payment of $1,237. Today,
that same monthly payment
“While it’s not likely that
the average 30-year fixed
mortgage rate will return
to its all-time record low,
today’s average rates are still
would only be $908. Experts
say for this reason, now is a
great time to buy.
Beyond mortgage rates,
there are other important
aspects to understand before
buying a home, such as getting a firm handle on your finances, knowing your credit
score, and understanding
your down payment options.
