The event will take place Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 7 p.m. (CST) in the Wabasha room at the Royal River Casino (607 S Veterans St). “We’re eager to visit with the public about the local weather station and share how they can utilize web-based tools to access real-time weather and soil information,” explained Nathan Edwards. An Engineer & Manager at SDSU Climate, Edwards oversees a network of 25 weather stations located throughout the state. The weather station is located just north of Flandreau. During the April 21 session, Edwards will demonstrate online tools available to the public. Additionally, he will cover some of the roles the station serves which include agriculture, water resources, community service and research. The public will have the opportunity to view a functional, demonstration weather station and learn how air, water, soil and sun information are reported. During the session, Elizabeth Wakeman, Brownfields Program Director for the Tribe’s Natural Resources Department will report on the department’s efforts to educate, prevent, assess, safely clean-up, and sustainably reuse brownfields. Their management can be sometimes complicated by the presence of hazardous substances, pollutants or contaminants. There is no cost to attend.
