Preps For Annual Benefit Show BY RANDY DOCKENDORF randy.dockendorf@yankton.net Talk show host and comic Ellen DeGeneres is coming to Yankton. Well, maybe not the actual Ellen, but an impersonator of her for the annual Lewis and Clark Theatre Company gala. And hopefully, the real celebrity will send a personal item or something from her show for the auction at the March 19 event at Minerva’s. This year’s gala will feature dinner and a take-off on the “Ellen” show. “We’re trying to get donations from Ellen (for the auction). We have some people trying to contact her show,” said LCTC executive director Tara Gill. How about something both personal and from the show? What about the trademark underwear with the ‘Ellen’ label that she often presents guests? Gill is intrigued by the idea. “We would welcome it,” she said with a laugh, adding the gala would gladly accept any donation for the silent and live auctions. And if DeGeneres herself can’t make it to Yankton, Gill is hoping that a bit of Yankton can make it on the “Ellen” talk-variety show shot in California. “We want to have a dance-off between our Ellen and the real Ellen,” Gill explained, referring to DeGeneres’ love of dance – particularly her trademark dance through the audience at the start of each program. The connection isn’t out of the realm of possibility, given DeGeneres’ generosity and support for the arts. The comedian has also been known to invite guests with unusual and sometimes outrageous talents or backgrounds. “In past years, we’ve raised $16,000 through the gala. With this year’s ‘Ellen’ theme, we’re really hoping to raise $20,000,” Gill said. “It’s our largest fundraiser of the year, so it’s a big event n GALA Page 18 BULL SALES RCR POLLED HEREFORDS REG POLLED HEREFORD BULLS AND PUREBRED F1 BLACK BALDY BULLS FOR SALE BY PRIVATE TREATY.
