Yankton High School has prided itself on exciting and unique homecoming activities ever since 1925 when homecoming first originated. On Monday, September 16th Seniors chose the 2013 Royalty. In alphabetical order they are: “Pioneer Prince” candidates: Layne Droppers, Brandon Frick, JJ Hejna, Lane Sawatzke, Tanner Termansen, and Landon Withrow “Pioneer Princess” candidates Anna Gulick, Molly King, Susanna Kinsley, Hailey Luken, Abbey VanMeeteren, and Brooke Wuebben. From the royalty a “Pioneer Prince” and “Pioneer Princess” will be selected. Pioneer Days coordinators Cassi Pietz, Pat Kortan, Teresa Martindale, and Matt Termansen are excited for the 2013 homecoming events. School District and Community Activities The major schedule of events is as follows: Thursday, September 26th 7:00 pm Coronation of the “Pioneer Prince” and “Pioneer Princess” in the main gymnasium at the YHS Summit Activity Center. The MCs are Beth Pearson and Patrick Binder. This will be followed by the traditional burning of the “Y”. 2:30 pm Parade announced by the coronation MCs Parade Route: Riverside Drive/Levee Street and Pearl, proceed north to 3rd and Pearl, go west on 3rd to Cedar, go south on Cedar to Riverside Drive, and go east on Riverside Drive to the parking lot for the Dakota Territorial Capitol building where the parade will end. Friday, September 27th High School Student Activities 5:30-6:30 pm “Burger King Tailgate party” This is sponsored by the Yankton Adult 10:45 am Athletic Booster Club. It will be held Student assembly “Gong Show” for in the southwest corner of CraneSenior High Students ONLY. The Youngworth. MCs are Maggie Wallis and Zach Lattea. 7:00 pm Football game: 12:30pm -2:00 pm Lunch and float/door decorating for Yankton “Bucks” vs O’Gorman “Knights” students at the High School 9:00pm -11:30 am Pioneer Day Dance – Activity Center Commons Cost is $4.00.
