Yankton High School announces its 2011 Pioneer
Days schedule. Yankton High School has prided itself
on exciting and unique homecoming activities ever
since 1925 when homecoming originated. Over the
years, the activities have ranged from a snake dance
through the city to parades. On Monday, Sept. 12,
seniors chose the 2011 Royalty. In alphabetical
order they are Pioneer Prince candidates: Dillon
Beckmann, Connor Fitzsimmons, Matthew Gubbels,
Jordan Hauger, Terry Huber and Kipp Kinsley;
Pioneer Princess candidates: Chloe Cornemann,
Jenna Grossenburg, Lindsey Lien, Madisen Mines and
Vanessa Rockne. From the royalty a “Pioneer Prince”
and “Pioneer Princess” will be selected at
Coronation at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 at the
YHS gymnasium. This will be followed by the
traditional burning of the “Y.” School will be
dismissed at 2:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23 with the
homecoming parade starting at 2:30 p.m. The
parade route is 8th and Douglas, south to 6th, west
to Cedar, south to 3rd, east to Pine and north to 8th.
A “Burger King Tailgate Party” will be held from
5:30-7 p.m. hosted by the Yankton Adult Booster
Club at the southwest corner of Crane-Youngworth.
The Yankton Bucks will play the Brookings Bobcats
at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at Crane Youngworth Field. Pat
Kortan, Cassi Pietz and Teresa Martindale are
Pioneer Days coordinators and are enthusiastic
about this year’s events.
