Vendors, Artisans Sought For Yankton’s
2018 ‘Meet In TheStreet’ Flea Market
“Meet in the Street” Saturday,
July 28, for the first Trunk Sale,
flea-market style set up along Third
Street in Yankton’s downtown Meridian District. This new event features
the “buy, sell, trade” concept, selling
from your vehicle in the street from
9 a.m.-3 p.m.
“Our vision is to energize downtown’s Meridian District, flea-market
style, with a variety of local merchandise from our community.
Paired with our retail shops and the
Rock ‘n’ Rumble motorcycle rally,
it has all the right ingredients for a
great time in downtown,” said Cathy
Clatworthy, who spearheaded the
volunteer organization as a fundrais-
er for Yankton’s Harvest Halloween
Festival.
She said the goals are to provide
opportunities for the public, professional vendors, non-profits, local artists, anyone with an entrepreneurial
spirit.
“’Meet in the Street’ is a perfect
social-gathering event that the public can immerse themselves in the
local community. That is one thing
that all flea markets have in common,” Clatworthy said. “We think by
linking the two events together will
only add more energy, draw more
attention to Yankton and get folks
out for a fun day of shopping in the
Meridian District.”
Clatworthy said she is working
with Jessica Scott, downtown’s
executive director, to expand many
special events within the Meridian
District.
Anyone interested in participating as a vendor should contact
Clatworthy at 211 W Third St., in
downtown Yankton or sign up on the
group’s Facebook page by messaging
there. There is a registration fee, and
those dollars go directly to the Harvest Halloween fundraising efforts.
Anyone else who wishes to donate, sponsor or volunteer to help
with this event should also contact
Clatworthy or Scott.
BROOKINGS — Alice Sebold, whose novel “The Lovely Bones”
is featured on PBS’s The Great American Read America’s 100 Favorite Books List, will appear at the South Dakota Festival of Books
in September as part of a partnership between the South Dakota
Humanities Council and South Dakota Public Broadcasting.
Sebold will speak to college students during the day and
participate in an evening keynote event, an on-stage conversation
with Lori Walsh, host of SDPB’s “In the Moment,” Friday, Sept. 21 in
Brookings. Watch http://www.sdbookfestival.com for more details.
Published in 2002, “The Lovely Bones” quickly became an
unprecedented international bestseller, with translations in more
than 45 languages and sales of more than five million copies in
America alone. With poignant prose tackling difficult subjects of
rape, child murder and the fracture of families, Sebold captured
international audiences with her brilliant debut novel.
A film version was adapted, written and directed by Peter Jackson. It was released in 2009 and starred Mark Wahlberg, Rachel
Weisz, Susan Sarandon and Stanley Tucci.
An Oprah’s Book Club selection and winner of the Indies
Choice Book Award for Adult Fiction, “The Lovely Bones” was
described by Publisher’s Weekly as “full of suspense and written in
lithe, resilient prose that by itself delights.”
“Sebold’s most dazzling stroke, among many bold ones, is to
