The program will be held in the Kozak Room at 6 p.m. Friday, July 20, and is free and open to the public. Davis has logged more than 12,000 miles on six different continents, including thru-hikes of the Pacific Crest Trail, the Colorado Trail, Vermont’s Long Trail, numerous trails in Europe, and the Appalachian Trail three times. In 2011, Davis wanted to test her physical limits. With the help of her husband Brew and a dedicated group of friends, she set the fastest known time (male or female) on the “A.T.” by hiking 47 miles a day for 46 days straight. Davis will be sharing slides and stories, answering questions and reading excerpts from her new book “The Pursuit of Endurance.” She will also be selling and signing books after the program. For her adventures, Davis has been featured in the New York Times, the Washington Post, NPR’s “Talk of the Nation,” ESPN, and the CBS “Early Show.” She is founder and owner of Blue Ridge Hiking Company (www.blueridgehikingco.com), an Asheville, North Carolina-based guiding service whose mission is “to make the wilderness accessible and enjoyable through the written and spoken word, instruction and guiding.” This program is sponsored by the Vermillion Public Library along with the South Dakota Sierra Club. Poker Alice Set For Gayville Hall The Poker Alice Band and country singer Brenda George Taylor return to Gayville Hall on Saturday, July 14, for an 8 p.m. concert of fiddle tunes, western swing, country, jump blues, and pop. The veteran South Dakota band was founded in the mid-1980s and is known for its virtuosity and eclectic repertoire, according to producer Doug Sharples. Taylor, from rural Avon, who sang with Poker Alice in the late 1980s has reunited with the band once or twice annually at Gayville Hall since 2003. in the Classifieds.
