Mount Marty College
Theatre has announced its
2017-2018 Performing Arts
season. All performances
will be held in Marian
Auditorium on the Yankton
campus.
The season opens
Oct. 19 with the musical
comedy “Church Basement Ladies,” a celebration
of the church basement
kitchen and the ladies
who work there. Funny
and down to earth, these
women serve the food and
solve the problems of a
rural Minnesota church
about to undergo changes
in 1965. “Church Basement Ladies” will feature
Yankton’s own Jim Reimler as Pastor Gunderson,
and also include Wendy
Short-Hays’ choreography
from the original Plymouth
(Minnesota) Playhouse production. Performances run
Oct. 19-22.
The lives of Kayleen
and Doug intersect at the
most bizarre intervals in
“Gruesome Playground
Injuries,” a new comedy by
Rajiv Joseph, which runs
Feb. 2-4. The two childhood
friends compare the scars
and physical calamities
that keep drawing them
together.
As the 30th anniversary of the Pan Am 103
bombing approaches in
2018, the strong people of
Lockerbie, Scotland will be
honored in the play “The
Women of Lockerbie,” a
play written by Deborah
Brevoort. In the play, running March 22-25, a woman
from New Jersey roams
the hills in search of her
son’s remains, one of the
270 victims of the terrorist bombing. She and her
husband meet a group of
women fighting the U.S.
government in an effort to
convert an act of hatred
into an act of love.
An MMC original, Mount
Marty College is pleased
to offer the community the
seventh annual “Stations Of
The Cross.” The 30-minute
presentation will be held
Tuesday, March 27.
April will feature the
National Players Tour 69,
America’s longest-running
professional touring
company, to Yankton.
The Players’ have been
coming to South Dakota
for more than 60 years.
This year, they bring “The
Great Gatsby” by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, adapted for the
stage by Simon Levy, for
one performance April 20.
On April 21 a matinee of
“Alice in Wonderland,” a
world-premiere adaptation
of the classic by Lewis Carroll, will feature the use of
cameras, projections, and
puppets to tell the story.
