CDWC Set To Open For Season March 1
SOUTH YANKTON, Neb. — After a longer than normal
seasonal closing, The Corps of Discovery Welcome Center,
located just south of Yankton along Highway 81, will reopen
Tuesday, March 1, at 10 a.m. and will continue with winter
hours of 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon-4
p.m. Sunday.
Expanded hours will be instituted after Memorial Day.
Shakespeare Program At USD March 1
VERMILLION --- Dr. Darlene Farabee will present “Shakespeare
Illustrated” at the Neuharth Conference Room, Neuharth Media
Center on the campus of the University of South Dakota at 4 p.m.
Tuesday, March 1.
In advance of the “First Folio!” exhibition, Farabee (University
of South Dakota) will give a Humanities Research Forum lecture
on the materials from the I.D. Weeks special collections and
archives that will be on display in the library exhibition, Shakespeare Illustrated (which runs concurrently with the First Folio!
exhibition). This illustrated talk will highlight items from the
library’s collections and also discuss how Shakespeare’s texts
have been illustrated.
This lecture is free and open to the public.
For more information, visit http://www.usd.edu/shakespeare.
USD Chamber Singers Set For Yankton
VERMILLION – The University of South Dakota Chamber Singers take their nationally recognized music across South Dakota
and to parts of Iowa and Minnesota in March on their annual
spring tour, led by conductor David Holdhusen.
“Our students will have an opportunity to perform in multiple
venues with different acoustics,” said Holdhusen, Ph.D., associate professor of music and Director of Choral Activities at USD.
“Because we are on the road for the entire week of spring break
as part of the tour, the students have the opportunity to work
like professional performers. I think that is an important experience for our young musicians, and something they will really
enjoy.”
The area concerts are:
• 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, Mt. Marty College Chapel,
Yankton;
• 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 4, Augustana Lutheran Church,
Sioux City, Iowa;
• 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, First Lutheran Church, Mitchell;
• 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 11, First Congregational Church,
Sioux Falls;
• 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 19, Home Concert, UCC, Vermillion.
Admission is free to all Chamber Singers’ performances,
but a freewill offering will be collected. The choir will also visit
several high schools while on the road to share their music with
students. Copies of the Singers’ two CDs, “Nature’s Witness” and
“Yours in Song,” will be on sale at all tour locations.
Author, Speaker Set For MMC March 2
Sharing his story of career and cultural exploration and of
working 50 jobs in 50 states, best-selling author and speaker Daniel Seddiqui will visit Mount Marty College in Yankton Wednesday, March 2, at 8:30 p.m.
Encouraging his audiences to explore the world around them,
to understand and respect one another, and to make continuous discoveries to better themselves, Seddiqui is the founder of
Living the Map, which raises awareness of the varying cultures,
careers, and environments across the country through outreach,
educational endeavors, and community building.
Open to the public, Seddiqui’s March 2 presentation will be
held in Marian Auditorium. No tickets are necessary for this free
event.
Seddiqui’s career exploration across the United States featured stints as a corn farmer in Nebraska, a wedding coordinator
in Vegas, a logger in Oregon, a racing pit crew member in Indianapolis, a lobsterman in Maine, a surfing instructor in Hawaii, a
model in North Carolina, and more.
He has been featured on numerous international and national
media outlets, including CNN, Fox News, “World News Tonight,”
National Public Radio, “The Today Show,” Time Magazine, and
