The Yankton Search and a Rescue team is available 24 hours a day, 365 days y a year. In the nearly 30 years since its inception the Yankton Search a ankt and Rescue team has been deployed on hundreds of calls including: Missing Persons Calls Wa Emergencies and ater Drowning’s Medical Emergencies High Angle and Rope Access Underwater (Scuba) Work cuba) o Evidence Location and Recover y Search Guidance and Support for Other Agencies Flood Prevention The team has worked closely with state and local law enforcement, EMS, the media, emergency management agencies and government entities. As a 501c3 private, non-profit organization, the team is not limited by political boundaries and can deploy wherever there is a need. The team also maintains it’s own liability insurance policies. Q: What does YSAR do? A: (1) Search for and rescue people who have been lost County (SD) and in Ya ankton Cou the surrounding areas. (2) Provide educational and safety support for organizations and businesses requesting our ser vices. (3) Assist local and state authorities with evidence recover y for criminal investigations. (4) Assist Yankton Count EMS with a County emergency response calls. Q: Do YSAR members get paid? A: YSAR is strictly a volunteer organization. All members, officers, leaders and board members provide their ser vices free of charge for the benefit of the surrounding communities. Q: Does YSAR charge a fee to rescue people? A: The YSAR team is made up of volunteers whoa re not paid, because of this there are no direct fees for search and rescue operations. Q: What types of rescues does YSAR make? A: (1) EMS assistance operations. (2) Water rescues. ) a (3)Wildland and urban missing person searches. (4) Open water and ice diving searches. (5) High- and low-angle rope rescues. (6) Evidence recover y searches as requested by the authorities. (7) Natural disaster response searches. (8) Flooding prevention operations. (9) Other searches as requested. ankton Ya ankto County Search and Rescue was the recipient of the 2014 Harold Weiland Award. This award is presented annually to an individual or group who has outstanding commitment and excellence in their field. Q: How does someone contact YSAR for a search and rescue? A: If you have a situation that may require a search and rescue contact your local authorities by calling 911 immediately and giving them the incident details. YSAR will then be contacted to plan and deploy a search and rescue operation. Q: What kind of training do YSAR members have? A: Ever y YSAR team member is required to have CPR training, be a certified first responder and pass an Emergency Ve ncy ehicle Operations Course (EVOC). Once these basic skills are met members are encouraged to pursue more specialized technical training as an EMT’s, public safety divers and/or rope rescue technicians. Community relations In addition to our emergency response capabilities YSAR is committed to volunteering time to the community of Yan a ankton and the surrounding areas in a number of different ways. The YSAR team helps various community organizations with event safety and security throughout the year.
