October 30, 2012• Page 16 shop online at www.missourivalleyshopper.com Introducing Christy Hauer Christy Hauer is a South Dakota native who grew up in Omaha. She received an undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and a MBA from Mount Marty College. She started her career as an executive with a youth organization in Sioux City and later in Omaha. She served as a professional fundraiser, focusing on membership growth, marketing, management, programming and volunteer recruitment. She then married Pat Hauer and had 2 children Greg and Heather. The Hauers have lived in the Yankton/Mission Hill area for the past 14 years and feel fortunate to be a part of such a wonderful community. Christy committed to being a stay at home mom while Pat is a professor at USD in the Physical Therapy Department. In order to keep her professional skills honed she worked on some projects at Mount Marty College on a part time basis. She worked in continuing education and development, focusing on providing lifelong learning opportunities for businesses and community members and also focused on fundraising to secure the funds needed to sustain the annual budget. Christy then moved to Avera Sacred Heart Hospital and served as a grant writer and coordinator. For the past 6 years she coordinated the homemaker program managing 40 nurses and homemakers, who went into the homes of 400 seniors and the disabled to provide in home care, enabling them to remain independent. For the past 13 years she said she felt fortunate to serve the rich tradition of the Benedictine Values. “I feel my past experiences have afforded me the skills needed to serve as the Executive Director of The Center. I believe whole heartedly in our mission of providing mature adults with recreation, socialization, and nutritious opportunities that will enhance their quality of life so they can remain independent and happy. Each day I am amazed by all the exceptional programs that are offered serving the needs of so many.” For those with limited financial resources The Center distributes 190 boxes of food each month thru the commodities program and for those who have pets there is a monthly pet food allowance. There are hundreds of individuals served thru the SHIINE Medicare Part B Assistance and tax aide assistance programs, if you are over 60 years old you can enjoy a delicious homemade meal for just $3.25 and if you are under 60 for $6.50. The Meals on Wheels program serves from 60-100 individuals who are shut in and likely would not get a hot homemade meal. “Each day I feel so blessed to be coordinating the efforts of an organization that genuinely serves the needs of those in our community. My goal as director is to give everyone in Yankton and the surrounding area the opportunity to be a part of our life changing efforts, thru becoming a member, thru volunteering, or thru financially supporting our work. All of our events are offered to everyone in the community. I encourage you to stop by to check out our incredible facility, give us a call at 665-4685 or email me at director@thecenteryankton.org. I am grateful each day to be part of an amazing mission and you can too: JOIN, VOLUNTEER, CONTRIBUTE.” certified public accountants DAKOTA ARCHERY & OUTDOOR SPORTS For Flooring with a Professional Touch Harry Lane, Electrical Contractor • Commercial • Residential • Farm Wiring • Prompt Service • Quality Work • Competitive Prices New Construction or Remodeling • Home 665-6612 Yankton Office 207 Douglas Avenue • PO Box 1018 Yankton, SD 57078 605-665-4401 • Fax: 605-665-0592 212 Walnut Street, Historic Downtown Yankton 605-665-2067 605-665-8340 2305 E.
